Best Sports Bars Glasgow

Glasgow takes sport very seriously. Here's where to watch the game with proper atmosphere.

In Glasgow, watching sport isn’t a casual pastime – it’s a central part of the city’s social culture. The football divide runs deep, the national sides are followed with passion bordering on the theological, and the pub culture around major sporting events is unlike almost anywhere else in Britain. These are the places to be when something significant is happening on a screen.

01 Pubs

Pubs Near Celtic Park, Parkhead

The matchday atmosphere around Celtic Park in the East End is a specific Glasgow experience. The Louden Tavern on London Road is the closest thing to an official Celtic bar – green-and-white, wall-to-wall history, and an atmosphere on big European nights that makes the hairs stand up. The cluster of pubs on London Road fills completely from two hours before kick-off and the walk to the ground from a pub exit is genuinely electric.

02 Pubs

Pubs Near Ibrox, Govan

The Rangers pub culture around Ibrox in Govan mirrors this on the other side – Edmiston Drive fills with blue on matchdays. The Louden in Govan (different pub to the Celtic one) and several bars immediately adjacent to the ground are full-commitment sporting pubs where the result of the match defines the entire afternoon.

03 Waxy

Waxy O’Connor’s, West George Street

A massive multi-level Irish pub in the city centre with screens throughout and the volume to match. On international football and rugby days this is the place to be in central Glasgow. The sheer scale means you can usually get in even for big events, which distinguishes it from smaller venues that lock out non-regulars on major match days.

04 Sports

The Sports Bar at Radisson Blu

Reliable city-centre screens for major events. Less atmospheric than the local pubs around Celtic Park or Ibrox but accessible, central, and always showing the right fixture. The beers are straightforward and the staff handle the volume of sporting events efficiently.

05 Broadcast

Broadcast, Sauchiehall Street

A multi-room bar that functions as both a live music venue and a sports bar depending on what’s on. The mix of screens and stage means the programming varies but they cover major Scottish football and European club nights reliably. Good food too.
